Minmetals Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary company of China Minmetals Corporation, and was founded in 1988. Its main business scopes are, supplying steel products into the Australia market, trading metallurgical raw material, and investing in Australia. Our managing director Michael Liu is also in charge Minmetals New Zealand and Minmetals R.S.A and holds the position of the president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Victoria.

The parent company, China Minmetals Corporation, founded in 1950, is a large sized group dealing worldwide in development, production, trading and operation for metals and minerals. It is also engaged in finance, real estate and logistics. In 1999, China Minmetals was listed among the 39 "key enterprises" with a great bearing on national security and economic lifeline under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government. In 2007, Minmetals was ranked Class A when the SASAC evaluated the performance of state-owned enterprises under the jurisdiction of the Central Government.
In 2010, the Group was ranked No. 229 among the Fortune Global 500. In 2010 China Minmetals achieved a total business volume of US$38 billion dollar.

In 2008, China Minmetals Corporation’s subsidiary China Minmetals Nonferrous Metals Co., Ltd. has succeeded in the OZ Minerals assets acquisition for $1.386 billion. With the purchase of most of OZ Minerals' assets by China Minmetals; these collective assets became MMG in 2009.
Minmetals Australia plays an important role in the steel industry, acting as a trading intermediary and value-adding service provider including finance support and steel manufacturing. Minmetals Australia has strengthened strategic cooperation with chinese steel mills and Australian local steel distributors. Tisco is the world largest stainless steel producer, which authorizes Minmetals Australia as the sole distributor in Australia and New Zealand Region. And what’s more, we started participating in projects in Australia. Minmetals Australia supplied steel pipe for the Victorian Desalination Project in 2009.
